Sahas Foundation is a youth run organization founded in the year 2016 with a vision to create a world that is free from gender based violence. The stepping stone towards fulfilling this vision has been to provide knowledge building to the adolescents in India on “Gender, Sexuality and Reproductive Health” thereby building their capacity to challenge child sexual abuse; the earliest form of gender based violence an individual is vulnerable to. With this work, the intention was also to resolve the existing gap in the Indian education system which is still dismissive of “Gender and Sex Education” curriculum.
The consistent efforts of this work have been to provide a conversational space for adolescents to have the courage to question things that matter to their lives. So, that our younger generation can be empowered citizens of India who make informed life choices and are enabled to say “No” to any or all forms of gender based violence. Building this empowering space for adolescents requires gradual efforts into creating a gender sensitive ecosystem. And, this is accomplished through the work at Sahas by interventions with women, parents, teachers and police.
